hai·ku

[hahy-koo] Show IPA
noun, plural hai·ku for 2.
1.
a major form of Japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons.

These are my attempts.

Drops from grey clouds fall
Like those from  sheets brought  in to
dry inside; frozen.

Dog  snores with sounds of
Spurts, gurgles, and snorting squeaks
Dreams of  birds and cats.

A squirrel running
Across the roof, runs also
Across one's mind.

A person's absence
Is only absence if the
Mind  allows it to be

A hinted for gift
Is merely something 'picked up'.
A list completed.

For the poor, having
good food choices is likely
As changing their socks.

Sunshine memories
Are washed away like dust as
Rain falls from the roof.
